• minimal Linux ELF distribution in 7.5MB archive (5 diskettes)
• Monkey is small, but is not only a toy
• contain X Window
• full network support with TCP/IP and IPX/SPX
• latest Kernel with modules
• some ready-to-install packages with usefull software
• usually Linux distributions need repartition with previous full backup. With Monkey Linux you can simply extract all the files to one directory. Linux will use MSDOS FAT as well as I think (also FAT32). This allows you to experiment with Linux everywhere you want. You do not need to know anything about fdisk, ext2, bootdisk, rootdisk, etc.
• you may install any other Linux applications
• Monkey is not really complete distribution - use Slackware, RedHat, etc. (Monkey will be probably your first step...)

Minimal HW requirements

• 20MB on IDE HDD (+ 10MB for SWAP) on non-compressed DOS volume

Apache requires proper configuration of your network (IP, DNS, etc.). If you would like to use Apache only with loopback, you probably must set the name of your server in /var/lib/httpd/conf/httpd.conf by uncommenting and proper setting line with ServerName. Then try: httpd ; lynx http://localhost/ and viola ;-) Root of your new Web site is in directory /var/lib/httpd/htdocs.

You probably want to set these values in /var/lib/httpd/conf/srm.conf:

  # UserDir: The name of the directory which is appended onto a user's home
  # directory if a ~user request is recieved.

  UserDir public_html

  # DirectoryIndex: Name of the file or files to use as a pre-written HTML
  # directory index.  Separate multiple entries with spaces.

  DirectoryIndex index.html

xdos is not avaiable yet
be sure you know, what are you doing

Installation:

1. make a DOS boot diskette with SYS.COM and FDISK.EXE (probably with some editor or Volkov Commander too)
2. install this package
3. login as root
4. check /etc/dosemu.conf (only if your diskette drive A: is not an 3.5')
5. put system diskette to floppy drive and type: dos -A
6. after DOS up type (this NOT affect your HDD, only /lib/dosemu/hdimage) FDISK /MBR SYS C: C: EXITEMU
7. create /etc/dosemu.users with login names of your favourite users (one per line)
8. RTFM (Read The Fine Manual) or Dosemu-HOWTO
9. next time you (or they) like type: dos

Hint: Try CTRL+^ h (CTRL+SHIFT+6 h) to learn about the special key-handling.

This package is designed ONLY for the kernel compilation. Everything else is up to your own risk.

Support for other platforms than i386 has been removed. With patches for FAT32 and older version of driver for 3c59x. Configuration file of the kernel in Monkey distributon included.

There is not all manpages. This package was a little bit reduced. Contain pages for utilities in Monkey.

Contain the original package from Netscape FTP server. This is the copyrighted software, read License, please.

Sendmail requires proper configuration of your network.

1. Make a directory called LINUX in the root directory.
2. Whole Linux operating system will be placed into this directory.
3. Extract all files mlinuxNN.a?? to this directory (NN is a version):

       arj x -v -y mlinuxNN C:\LINUX
     

4. Enter to the directory LINUX.
5. If you install to another drive than C:, please check LINUX.BAT.
6. Type LINUX.BAT, cross you fingers....
7. ...
8. Uninstallation: Simply remove directory C:\LINUX (ie: DELTREE /y C:\LINUX)
